Summary/Abstract: The motif of enclosing, encircling, and circularity appears in a complex form in HBO’s The Last of Us (2023 – ), which goes well beyond a metaphorical representation of the immune system and proved a kind of constat about the moral condition of mankind. The circularity breaking and encoded in the linear narration helps us interpret the kind of futurity that the TV series confronts us with. The present paper, therefore, discusses how the unique characteristics of the show’s zombies communicate our present anxieties and how they relate to the motifs of circularity and enclosure, which form integrated parts of the narrative. The analysis pays special attention to the various types of communities that live in enclosed settlements, as well as the storyline of episode three.
