Summary/Abstract: The European Investment Bank is a self-financing financial body, being independent from the European Union budget. The bank is also financed by loans from the capital markets, which it then reorients, without profit, in the direction of the Union's priority investments. We distinguish the EIB Group, which comprises the EIB and the European Investment Fund (EIF). The EIB Group was created in 2000 to encourage lending to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The EIB Group focused in particular on supporting projects related to the energy transition, education, health, transport and inclusive growth. Among other things, in Romania, in 2022, the EIB Group's commitment included financing for health, urban development, forest regeneration, tertiary education and business investments.
