Summary/Abstract: This study is devoted to the right of a child to know his or her origin, parents, to be in their care, or at least to have contact with them if he or she is placed in alternative care. Moreover, it also analyses the best interests of the child as a primary consideration in all actions, whether undertaken by public or private social welfare institutions, courts of law, administrative authorities, or legislative bodies, as well as the child’s participation rights. Finally, attention is paid to the new family policy and recent developments in the field of alternative care and the rights of the child removed from his or her family of origin.
