Summary/Abstract: The desire to foresee the future, prevent undesirable outcomes, alter what is not present, or change what already exists has led individuals to pursue various paths. Magic and magical rituals, which have played significant roles in society and can be traced back to early human history, represent one of these pursuits. People have sought the help of sorcerers, spiritualist or spiritual healers for various purposes, such as curing illnesses, finding a spouse, opening paths to good fortune, having children, protecting themselves from harm, or causing harm to others. This study focuses on the examination of love-related spells, driven by desires to unite with a loved one, to retain someone they believe to be their destined partner, or by feelings of hatred and revenge stemming from rejection or unrequited love. For this purpose, academic publications, master's and doctoral dissertations on magic were reviewed, and it was found that spells with romantic intentions were frequently employed in the examples provided in these works. In this study, which examines both the benevolent and malevolent aspects of love, spells thought to carry benevolent intentions are categorized as “white magic”, whereas those with malevolent intentions are classified as “black magic”. Drawing from the texts examined, the motivations behind people's recourse to love-related spells and the underlying social and psychological factors are analyzed. Additionally, the timing of these spells, the rituals involved, and the materials believed to be influential in achieving the desired outcome are classified and examined in detail.
