Balneotherapy in Bulgaria until 1946

Summary/Abstract: The article presents an initial stage of the research on the dissertation thesis: "Balneotherapy in Bulgaria in the 20th century. Social and cultural aspects". The analysis is based primarily on archival sources from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The processes of building modern public health care are studied as part of the general process of modernization accompanying the construction of the New Bulgarian State after the Liberation, with a specific focus on balneotherapy. Kyustendil and Sapareva Banya have been selected as individual illustrative cases.
