Summary/Abstract: Oral history studies offer the chance to re-examine the event in question from a different angle than the classical history writers by giving the opinions and statements of individuals who witnessed an event that occurred during the historical process, In essence, oral history is a historiography method. However, it is well recognised that this method is used in many social sciences, including sociology, education, literature, and film, in addition to history. In this way, it helps historiography to incorporate new viewpoints by uniting disparate fields around a common objective. As a result, the oral history method encourages the growth of multidisciplinary research, which has accelerated recently, particularly in the social sciences. Minstrel (Âşık) literature is one of the fields in which oral history studies are applied. Not only do minstrels possess a strong artistic aspect, but they also have the ability to represent the social events of the time they lived in. In this study, the oral history technique was used to examine the epic works of Âşık Said from Kırşehir, who influenced the folk poets such as Muharrem Ertaş, Neşet Ertaş, Hacı Taşan, around him both during and after his lifetime. Two distinct epics that the Âşık Said recounted about the Montenegro War of 1876 were the subject of the study. By analysing these epics using the framework of oral history it was intended to uncover how the people perceived the war that occurred during the last period of the Ottoman Empire and left a lasting impression on the Turkish people. Thus, it will be possible to evaluate the event in question from a different perspective outside of official historical records
