Summary/Abstract: The phenomenon of bullying has manifested itself in society in every period from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic. The subject of this study is the bullies who, while being ordinary people, went through a process of initiation and began to be perceived as folk heroes. The individual characteristics of bullies, their social perception, their roles and functions were examined in this study. Individual and social aspects of bullies, their social environments, their nicknames, their relationship with humor were emphasized and comments were made in this context. Some characteristics of bullies were classified and evaluated according to the pattern systematically put into practice by Eric Hobsbawm as "Social Bandit". The aim of the study is to draw attention to how people called bullies gain a place in society, leave an impact, and their social roles and functions. No field research was conducted during the study, and the "document analysis method" was used. The source from which the data was largely obtained is a book called "Develili Kabadayılar and Men of the World", which was prepared by Özçakır (2021) by interviewing many people from the field. In addition, this source was specifically chosen because it deals with bullies not only from one district but also from many regions and cities. The data obtained throughout the study were tried to be interpreted from a folklore perspective and were presented with evaluations in the context of group folklore. With this study conducted on bullies in the regions in question, it was aimed to prepare the ground for other studies with frameworks such as bullying tradition and bully folklore. Thus, the members-leaders of the underworld, the people known as mafia and mafia leaders in today's social media and the press, and the society's view/belief on these people and the expectations from these people should be revealed and referred to the disciplines of psychology, sociology and law, and at the same time, this issue should be supported by interdisciplinary studies.
