Summary/Abstract: The present study aims to analyze the relationship between informed consent and the protection of human dignity in international human rights law, with a particular focus on bioethical elements related to patients' rights. A number of legal and ethical conflicts that may arise in various jurisdictions will be highlighted. In the present paper, an analysis is provided on the importance of informed consent in protecting human dignity, focusing on the legal challenges from the cases judged at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) and on the need to harmonize national and international standards. The paper, starting from the examination of the impact of the international law of human rights and the national law in the medical field, will suggest an improvement in the national legislation in the sense of a better protection of human dignity.
