Summary/Abstract: The decade of 1990s was the time in British art when the phenomenon of postsculpture appeared. Young British Artists – a circle that emerged on the British art scene at the turn of the 1980s, determined distinctly the role of this inter-medium condition, which was located between new sculptural forms, installation art and ready-mades. Abigail Lane, Sarah Lucas, Damien Hirst and Gavin Turk – a small part of the YBAs, revolutionised the concept of sculpture and paid a large contribution to translation the high art language into a more accessible one, with the use of pop culture inspirations. The article presents a general idea of postsculpture, analyses some of the postsculptural forms made by YBAs and explains what impact punk, neo-pop and the element of Britishness had on the important shift in the British sculpture of the 1990s.
