Summary/Abstract: Despite the difficulty in preserving the choreographic material, arising from the specifics of the information that carries this art, folk dance in Bulgaria has an extremely bright national style and character, preserved as a form for several centuries. 129 The relatively late professional isation of the folk dance art and the differentiation of choreographic thought as a theoretical science still raises important questions on the horizons of dance (choreographic) education. Combining theory with empiricism, Kiril Dzhenev very successfully laid the traditions of choreographic education in Plovdiv (hereinafter called “the choreographic school of Prof. Kiril Dzhenev“). The direction set by Professor Dzhenev largely predetermines the challenges and dilemmas facing contemporary dance education – the search for a balance between authentic folklore heritage and the processed image in the form of stage works. The subject matter of the research is the choreographic education, the current challenges before it, as well as its interactions with the history of the national choreography. The paper also pays attention to the resources in the process of making the choreographic works in various forms
