Summary/Abstract: The article is dedicated to the problem of (non)representation of the Other in a discourse. The main argument consists in that the Other is a kind of ‘blind spot’ whose ‘reality’ cannot be properly understood, conceived or ‘represented’: instead of ‘representation’ we have ‘appropriation’. At the same time, the ‘reality of representation (as well as of the Other) is the only reality which we have access to. The argument is developed through the analysis of the theoretical propositions and linguistic theories of the 20th century (M. Bakhtin (V. Voloshinov), E. Benvéniste, M. Pecheux, etc.) and French poststructuralism.
