Summary/Abstract: “LUXUS Magazine”, available at the Wrocław Contemporary Museum since 10th May to 2nd September 2013, is the next exhibition (after “WroConcret. Wrocław Visual Text 1967+”, “Zbigniew Gostomski – It Begins in Wrocław” and “Where Is PERMAFO?” among others) that expresses retrospective-and-current programme of this institution. This presentation is a consequence of Piotr Stasiowski’s academic research interest. On the occasion of this show he acts in a curator duo with Anna Mituś, connected on regular basis with the BWA Awangarda Gallery in Wrocław. The team aimed to sum up the up-till-present artistic oeuvre of LUXUS group, established in Wrocław in the early 1980s. The formation, being nicknamed or enjoying the status of a “legendary” one, specialised in holding spectacular openings and represented – according to the curators – “the third path” of counterculture. The following text discusses both the show organisers’ accumulative-systematising efforts which can be interpreted as giving the group a specific historic status, i.e. so-called museumising, and at the same time an attempt of the group revitalisation in art circulation that had been put on market. The article also presents ideological base for these efforts, LUXUS’s self-definition as “hipno culture”, which was not that much about contest the reality, rather about curricular lack of engagement in the reality.
