The Role of Migration in God’s Plan of Salvation

Summary/Abstract: This work aims to contribute to the theological understanding of (contemporary) migration processes, starting from the perspective of the history of salvation. By diving into individual biblical texts, we can observe migrations as God’s will for man's salvation, that is, how God used migrations directly or indirectly in his plan of revelation and salvation. For example, the migrations of individuals and the entire Israeli people were often crucial for God's revelation to the people, for understanding God's greatness and love for man, and for the preparation for the coming of the Savior incarnated in the person of Jesus Christ, who experienced migration in his life – from exile to Egypt to public activity as a »traveling preacher.« In addition, the evangelical requirement of proclaiming the Good News to all peoples of the world includes migration – from the apostles to today's missionaries. Although God's plan of salvation was accomplished in the person and life of Jesus Christ almost two thousand years ago, it continues mysteriously even today for the people of our time to know and accept the salvation of Christ.
