Summary/Abstract: Entrepreneurship can be defined as a collection of diverse abilities, factors and functions of the entrepreneur and used in the performance of their entrepreneurial activities. That is usually the organization, coordination, supervision, administration and management of work processes, activities and actions. The economic preconditions for starting entrepreneurial ventures and entrepreneurship development are: ownership, capital, competition, market structure and entrepreneurial organization. The business environment also takes into account the sociological and political factors that have a strong impact on the development of entrepreneurship and the most important are the processes of social transition, the consequences of war, lack of definition of property-legal relations, underdeveloped markets, foreign - trade imbalance, lack of capital, low level of business culture and others. Psychological factors influencing the launching of entrepreneurial ventures are: the personal characteristics of entrepreneurs, the circumstances of life time and environmental factors. Characteristics of a good entrepreneur are: independence, self-confidence, willingness to take risks, flexibility, ability to learn, and perseverance. For entrepreneurs, it is very important to foster the strategic management of companies, and to use the best possible strategy for entering the market depending on the circumstances in which their business is located. The polling of entrepreneurs of all ages and qualifications working in BiH and Austria, and the analysis of their responses we have come to conclusions which are the main reasons for starting entrepreneurial ventures.
