Summary/Abstract: Traffic was and always will be a key feature of everyday life. It contributes significantly to the development, integration and growth of the internal market, with visible benefits for the European economy. More than twenty years, within the EU initiated the decade of transport policy with the aim of maximizing the space of integration, a better utilization of resources, lower transportation costs, as environmentally acceptable transport, transport on a human scale - sustainable transport. It is shown through a series of documents and white papers to common transport policy and the time for decision. The aim of the transport policies of the European Union is to establish an integrated and efficient transport system aimed at supporting regional development and European economies and well being. The author addresses the fundamental issues and guidelines of the common transport policy of the European Union, starting from its importance, principles, legislation to implementation in the Member States of the European Union but also those who are candidates.
