Summary/Abstract: A characteristic feature of all SEE countries is that they are generally small transition economies that have insufficient compliance with European and international norms and standards (although this process of harmonization in progress), that their products are not sufficiently competitive, that all countries have a deficit the trade balance and budget, although there are differences in the amount of such deficit. All countries, more or less, have an unsatisfactory infrastructure, lack of working capital and insufficient and inadequate credit support, a high share of the gray economy and still significant presence of corruption and crime. One of the basic commitments of SEE countries is joining the European Union. It should be mentioned, that in the context of joining, the EU toward the SEE countries is applying a regional approach, that emphasis is put on the entire region, and not to individual countries. Therefore, as a preparation of joining a larger and more complex economic integration, it was created CEFTA, as an example of successful regional integration. Although, in addition to its positive effects, the implementation of the provisions of the CEFTA agreement in practice encounters certain problems that States Parties must be solved along.
