Summary/Abstract: For many years, both the Ottoman Empire and Iran endured the burdens of capitulations. Despite periodic efforts by both states to eliminate these agreements, neither fully succeeded. However, when the Committee of Union and Progress came to power, it focused closely on the matter of capitulation abrogation. Taking advantage of the turbulent conditions at the outbreak of World War I, the Ottomans unilaterally declared the abrogation of capitulations. This bold move garnered significant approval in neighboring Iran, where media and statesmen closely followed the Ottomans' actions. Iranian newspapers extensively discussed the impact of the abrogation on Ottoman citizens and published articles urging Iranian leaders to draw lessons from this initiative. Iranian officials stationed in Ottoman territories also sent detailed reports back to their homeland, highlighting their observations. Ultimately, the Ottoman Empire's unilateral action served as an important model for İran. This article explores Iranian reactions to the Ottomans' September 1914 announcement, drawing on Iranian literature, periodicals, and other contemporary sources.
