Summary/Abstract: In Tubularia, lateral incisions on the stalk artificially induce the formation of two terminal hydranths fused at their oral poles, resembling, but not actually representing, a triple formation after rupture. This process is not true regeneration or morphallaxis, but rather a modified budding driven by cellular damage, leading to localized and extended neomorphosis depending on how long the wound remains open. The key trigger appears to be cell injury itself, possibly through chemical signals (as suggested by the Massart-Haberland hormone theory), rather than proximity to existing hydranths or structural cues from the periderm.
