Summary/Abstract: On September 1, 1939, Nazi troops invaded Poland. On September 17, when the main forces of the Polish army were defeated, Soviet troops crossed the Polish-Soviet border in Western Ukraine and Western Belarus. The «liberation mission» of the Red Army began to protect the «blood brothers» – Ukrainians and Belarusians from Nazi enslavement, and the secret Ribbentrop-Molotov protocol was actually implemented. September 28, 1939 – the Treaty on Friendship and Borders and another secret protocol between Germany and the USSR were signed, according to which Poland as a state disappeared from the world map, the border between the parties was established along the «Curzon line»: Eastern Galicia and Western Volhynia went to the USSR; Lemkivshchyna, Posyannia, Kholmshchyna, Podlasie came under German occupation. The aim of the study is to replay the vision of the history of the joining of Bukovyna to the Soviet Union and political impact of the context on this historical events. To legitimize the Soviet regime in Western Ukraine, on October 22, 1939, under the control of the new authorities, elections were held to the People’s Assembly, which at the end of October adopted the Declaration on the entry of Western Ukraine into the Ukrainian SSR. In November 1939, the session of the Verkhovna Rada of the Ukrainian SSR. Materials and methods. Historical studies and encyclopedia materials, as well as own analysis according to memories of the witness’ built the ground of this article. The novelty of the study. In June 1940, taking into account the Soviet-German agreement on the demarcation of spheres of influence, the USSR in an ultimatum form announced to Romania the transfer of Bessarabia and Bukovina to it. This processes where not exactly researched yet. So, the author try to analyse it on the basis of Bukovina and Volyn history. On June 28, troops under the command of G. Zhukov crossed the Dniester River and entered these territories. On August 2, 1940, by the decision of the VII session of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, the Moldavian SSR was formed, and the Chernivtsi region was organized in Northern Bukovina and transferred to the Ukrainian SSR. Conclusions. Thus, almost all Ukrainian ethnic lands were united in a single state. At the same time, with the accession of Western Ukrainian lands to the USSR, the process of their Sovietization began, that is, changes in all spheres of life in accordance with the models developed during the years of Soviet rule.
