Summary/Abstract: During the last several years, terrorists have been often using vehicles in attacks on public space where large number of people gather. Consequence of these attacks are significant number of human casualties. Unlike explosives and firearms, vehicles are easy available to terrorists, a minimum training and skills are needed to steer it and it takes minimum time to prepare an attack. Purpose of this paper is, based upon analysis of past terrorist attacks perpetrated by vehicles, to explore the role of transport infrastructure in protection of soft targets against terrorist attacks. Certain degree of protection can be achieved by intervening on existing roads with various physical barriers that are forcing the driver to slow down or prevent him from entering an area where large number of people are gathered. On the other hand, by controlling the vehicle by digital technology, terrorist attacks by vehicles can be prevented or hindered. The goal of this paper is to propose efficient system of soft targets’ protection against terrorist attacks which are to be built in transport infrastructure.
