Summary/Abstract: The erotological model presented in the paper was shaped by relying on the folklore context of the stories of Serbian romanticism and realism. The given model consists of three types of eros: procreative, medial and abstinent eros. Procreative eros (passion directed towards birth) is recognized through the cult of ancestors and the family hearth. Paradigmatic examples of short stories in which the eros of procreation is present are analyzed in the stories of Janko Veselinović. Medial eros (the passion that mediates between the heavenly and the earthly) is interpreted as a transitional erotological category. It is read through stories based on folk ballads in which the death of a lovers can be interpreted as a type of sacrifice that brings a certain benefit to the community (an analogy with sacrificial rites in the agricultural cult). Such examples are “Crni Mijailo” by Jovan Subotić and “Gorde, or how a Montenegrin woman loves” by Stjepan Mitrov Ljubiša. Abstinence eros will be found in the stories of Serbian romantics and will mean a passion directed towards the heavenly and eternal. The cult basis of abstinence eros will be reflected in the Kosovo myth, that is, in the pattern of the heroic cult (feat, suffering, the otherworldly realm of eternal life).
