Summary/Abstract: Ten years after the death of Eliza Orzeszkowa, the Society bearing her name was established with the goal of collecting, organizing, and making artefacts related to the life and works of the writer widely accessible. One of the outcomes of these efforts was the acquisition of the vast majority of the monumental correspondence of Eliza Orzeszkowa, one of Poland’s most significant epistolary authors. The first edition of Orzeszkowa’s letters was published in the 1930s. and the material it included was a subjective selection made by the members of the Editorial Committee, in which Ludwik Brunon Świderski played a pivotal role. The editorial materials and press statements available in the Eliza Orzeszkowa Archive, as well as a close reading of the edition, allow for preliminary insights into the criteria for selecting and commenting on the material.
