Summary/Abstract: Assistive technologies are used to maintain or improve an individual’s functioning and independence, thereby improving their quality of life. The use of assistive technologies in working with elderly clients is a fact that deserves special attention, especially in the current situation, where the proportion of the elderly population is increasing, the number of people in need of assistance is also increasing, but the number of carers is considered to be insufficient in the long term and their salaries are undervalued. The most common needs of people in need are, in particular, self-care and personal hygiene, hearing and vision care, memory care, mental health, mobility, socialisation, which means that it is important to prevent isolation and loneliness and to ensure safety and try to maintain the daily activities of these people. A specific group are (older) people suffering from neurodegenerative brain diseases. It is in this context that Sriram, V. et al. (2020) state that the high prevalence of declines among the elderly and the increasing global prevalence of dementia and the resulting frailty of persons are associated with an increased need for assistive technologies. Digital technologies will be important for social service workers as well as for technology users living in both institutional and home environ ments. Strategic documents and social legislation in particular should take these trends into account and create a more substantial space for their support and real application in practice. Within the methodological basis is applied the analysis of the subject matter in the literature and strategic documents for the purpose of specification and usability of assistive technologies in social services and trends of their development. The aim of the contribution is to summarize information from available domestic and foreign source documents. It is also intended to justify the rationale and benefits for several areas of social science practice, in particular technology, economics, public policies and social services.
