Summary/Abstract: The subject of the research presented in the following article is the filmAssandira (2020), directed by Salvatore Mereu, one of the representa-tives of the New Sardinian Cinema. The aim of this analysis is to attemptto identify elements in the film that strongly reflect the regional identity ofthe Sardinians, as well as elements of modernity in the narrative threadschosen by the director. Does the confrontation between the Sardinian pro-tagonists and characters from different cultures in the film emphasize theirdistinctiveness? In many Sardinian films, there is a tendency to stereotypeSardinian pastoral culture, with the protagonists often being elderly Sardin-ian shepherds and farmers who live according to the laws of nature. This isalso the case in Assandira, but the film deviates from the well-establishednarrative clichés that dominated traditional Sardinian cinema.
