Summary/Abstract: The article applies intersectional theory to the analysis of recent films byBlack American women filmmakers. It examines how multiple discrimina-tion, which occurs at the intersection of race and gender, shapes the dailyexperiences of the protagonists in Pariah (2011, dir. Dee Rees), Jezebel (2019,dir. Numa Perrier), and Farewell Amor (2020, dir. Ekwa Msangi). The articleexamines their portrayal of Black womanhood, freedom of expression ofminority identities, and modes of resistance against systemic oppression.It also reflects on the position of female filmmakers of color within Americancinema.
