Summary/Abstract: With today's developing technology, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), which have revolutionized the logistics sector as in every field of technology, have started to play an active role in cargo distribution and continue to do so with this momentum. UAVs provide a great advantage especially in urgent delivery shipments by offering fast and efficient delivery. Their cost-efficient operations, ease of transportation and access, and green carbon footprint make them a positive alternative to traditional product shipment/transportation methods. This paper will discuss the advantages of UAVs in cargo transportation and distribution, challenges, application areas in different sectors and service branches, and potential future use scenarios. With each passing day, UAVs are being used in a wide range of sectors such as e-commerce, health and medical services, emergency and emergency assistance, military logistics and access to areas outside urban settlements. Along with this sectoral distribution, various challenges such as legal regulations, security concerns, technological constraints, climate/landforms and weather dependency can negatively affect this technology from reaching its full potential. In the near future, UAV technologies integrated with artificial intelligence and 5G technology are expected to become more autonomous (completely without human intervention or with semi-human intervention) and safe. With the creation of special drone air corridors in urban areas and the development of blockchain-supported tracking systems, secure delivery operations and phenomena are expected to become more efficient. In conclusion, unmanned aerial vehicles constitute a significant transformation opportunity in the logistics sector. Thanks to the cooperation of regulatory bodies and the private sector, this technology has the potential to create a revolutionary change in cargo transportation by being adopted more widely (Günay, 2023). The potential of UAVs to offer sustainable logistics solutions and minimize environmental impacts by promoting green logistics practices is also of particular importance.
