Summary/Abstract: The Principality of Transylvania was given an imperially important task after the Turkish occupation of Hungary was abolished (ended). It was the Habsburg Monarchy’s stronghold against the Ottoman Empire. This military (war) situation demanded a cautious, special political attitude from the Viennese court. The social, political and public law differences between Hungary and Transylvania were deliberately taken into account in order to avoid a repetition of the anti-King movements of the 17th century. It is no coincidence that the adoption of the Pragmatica Sanctio in Transylvania (1722) and then in Hungary (1723) did not mark the end of the Transylvanian legislative process, which was not finally completed (enacted and proclaimed) until 1744. Therefore, the constitutional document in question can be seen as one of the steps in the process of the reintegration of the Principality of Transylvania into the Kingdom of Hungary.
