Summary/Abstract: In the 19th century, the golden age of missionaries, Western states divided the whole world into mission regions; They actively used missionaries to achieve political and economic gains as well as religious goals. In the same period, various Western missionary organizations operated in the Ottoman Empire, which was on the verge of a great collapse. The most popular among these organizations is the organization known as American Board of Commissioners of Foreign Missions (ABCFM), which is based on the United States of America. This organization divided the Ottoman Empire into various mission regions and evaluated Adapazarı within the Western Türkiye Mission within the framework of the Izmit mission. In this study, the annual reports in the archives of the American Board organization and the Missionary Herald magazine, the publication of the organization, were used and the work of the organization’s missionaries from the 1830s until the end of the century was revealed. The missionaries, who specifically targeted the Armenians living in the region, explained in their own documents how they carried out their religious propaganda and how they used the educational institutions they established for their purposes. Examining these activities, where the seeds of the Armenian issue, whose effects continue to this day, were sown, will enable us to better analyze recent history.
