Summary/Abstract: Both the theory and the practice of mediation could be enriched by evoking the Mediterranean, but only if one is prepared to discuss their own present position and replying to the requests of Mare Nostrum. Today, in fact, mediation obeys (quite apart from the good intentions of the mediators) the logic of existing individualisation. The individuals for mediation seem to be “originals” and not the fruit of an ordering and stratifying generative power. The only thing that holds together what would otherwise become pure monads is a generic governance. In practice, administration without Politics, the organisation of a traffic of equal circulators. Mediation lends its services to this global undertaking of governance. “Il pensiero Meridiano” by Franco Cassano has the merit of having underlined the fact that dialogue, in the Mediterranean experience, recognizes the irreducibility of the interlocutors, and never lets itself be deluded into thinking of recomposition. In the end however it appears unfit to produce a split with the logic of mediation-governing since the principal idea of the “coexistence of differences” is easily engulfed by global dynamics. Instead it is necessary to turn one’s attention to certain corners of the Mediterranean that have always been neglected: in particular, the southern Adriatic. It is here that the peripheral condition has produced a constitution that is against the identity of the people, an anthropology of absence, that by a strategy of camouflage and preservation of the vernacular, implicitly inspires a new model of mediation: this would guarantee both the fusion of dissimilarities and the preservation of an impregnable singularity.
