Summary/Abstract: The present study focuses on the transdisciplinarity and contextualisation of the topic in visual art. The main historical prerequisites for its differentiation in the last century are investigated (the parallelism between music and visual art during abstractionism and Wagner’s ideas about Gesammtkunstwerk). The main directions of its development in contemporary art are examined – the understanding of the work as a (closed or open) system and the theme of visual translation. The danger of transdisciplinarity turning into a “hyperdiscipline” is problematised.
