Summary/Abstract: At the heart of this text is the problem of the evolution and boundaries of the “Bulgarian”, the “artistic”, and the “traditional”, examined through the inclusion and combination of crafts in Bulgarian artistic and industrial practices and living environment. Its focus is on the relations between the production and consumption of craft objects during certain decades of the twentieth century in Bulgaria. Due to their contradictory combination, the exhibition meanders between subject areas, diverse trends, and relatively distinct professional communities (“old” and “new” crafts; artistic crafts, applied arts and design; artists, applied artists, craftsmen, and artistic craftsmen).
