Summary/Abstract: Maritime unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) operations are increasingly vital for shipping and port security worldwide, yet they introduce complex safety and security risks. This study examines risk management and hazard mitigation in maritime UAV operations through a comprehensive literature review and analysis. The scope encompasses operational, environmental, technical, security, and regulatory hazards specific to UAV deployment in maritime environments, with a focus on global shipping and port applications. The objectives include identifying key hazard categories and recommending mitigation strategies. Methods involve synthesizing recent academic research, industry guidelines, and government reports. Key findings indicate that maritime UAV hazards range from mid-air collisions and harsh weather impacts to technical failures and cyber threats. Effective risk mitigation requires robust UAV design, advanced collision avoidance systems, strengthened cybersecurity measures, rigorous operator training, and adherence to standardized regulations. These measures, combined with systematic risk assessment, are crucial for safe integration of UAVs in maritime operations. The significance of this research lies in highlighting that proactive risk management and hazard mitigation not only enhance the safety and efficiency of maritime UAV missions but also protect critical port infrastructure and shipping activities against emerging threats on a global scale
