Summary/Abstract: As a part of nature, humans have interacted with all living things around them in order to sustain their existence. In order to find a place for itself in the harmony and balance of nature, it has recognized other living beings in nature and developed relationships with them. In this process, in order to position itself in nature, human beings have observed animals, sometimes imitated them, and sometimes alienated and alienated them. Among the societies with a nomadic lifestyle, the Turks have a more advanced position in making sense of nature than settled societies due to their close relationship with nature. For the Turks, who earn their living through hunting and animal husbandry, knowing animals and giving them meaning has become a basic need. In this context, they have felt a strong closeness to some animals and have kept a distance from others. The dog, which is at the center of the study, has a dual position in Turkish culture as both a beloved and respected friend and an occasionally excluded being. It is impossible for such a culturally meaningful being not to affect other cultural elements. In this context, when literary texts in classical Turkish poetry are examined, it is seen that a creature that has gained an important place in Turkish culture with many words such as “köpek”, “seg”, “it” and “Kıtmir” is also frequently mentioned in poems. The aim of the article is to determine how a creature that the Turks attach importance to is addressed in literary texts and what analogies it is subject to with literary arts as well as its real meanings. In this direction, due to the abundance of the material determined, semantic indicators are kept in the foreground and the content of the study is limited to divans only.
