Summary/Abstract: The fall of the communist regimes in Eastern Europe, especially in Bulgaria in the autumn of 1989, marked a new period in the development of the Bulgarian Muslim community which is associated with new challenges related to cultural and social adaptation and new reintegration of Muslims into the secular state. For many analysts, in contrast with the ethnic and religious conflicts that erupted in the former SFRY (Yugoslavia), the preservation of ethnic and religious peace in Bulgaria, despite similar historical, political and socio-cultural conditions in the two neighboring countries, is a surprise. The Yugoslav scenario has not been implemented in Bulgaria for certain reasons based on the specific political, historical and socio-cultural aspects of the Bulgarian ethnic and religious model, which is the subject of the article
