Summary/Abstract: Extraordinary regularization of migrants’ processes is always exceptional but often appears on the agenda of many countries, as it has been recently in South American countries. The main objective of these processes is to legalize a large number of migrants in a short period oftime. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the borders remained closed for a long period of time, and the authorities faced a serious challenge from the growing number of irregular migrants (expiry of visas, undocumented migrants) in addition to the unemploymentof migrants. The study aims to provide an analysis and comparison of the extraordinary regularization programmes of six South American countries. The analysis focuses mainly on the countries affected by Venezuelan migration (Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru), with two other countries (Argentina and Brazil) selected in the region. The primary sources as well as the available statistics and other data allow the analysis of the regularization processes and migration trends during the Covid-19 pandemic, and suggestions for future scenarios.
