Summary/Abstract: Reclamation is a stage of mining activity, especially lignite opencast mining, which will compensate for the unfavourable changes caused by its activity. In the eastern part of Wielkopolska, in the Konińsko-Turecki Basin, it is the beginning of a new and often more attractive way of land development than before mining. In addition to the agricultural and forest reclamation which has to date dominated in these areas, water reclamation has appeared. The reservoirs after the end pits of the open-pit mines are filled and will be used for recreational and sports purposes. The emerging water reservoirs and their surroundings allow not only to restore, but also to enhance the landscape and natural values, to improve the microclimate conditions, and to rebuild damaged local ecosystems. Along with the construction of the water reservoir, the local retention level increases and in addition, the soil moisture increases. This direction of reclamation activity is now becoming the most preferred solution by local government units which satisfies the growing social requirements, following the forest and agricultural directions which dominated in previous years and which recreated the conditions preceding the mining operations. All these water reclamation programmes perfectly fit into the actions of the transformation of the eastern Wielkopolska region, i.e. actions facilitating a smooth transition from mining to other activities. The aim of the study was to present various reclamation and development options for post-mining areas with regard to water management in the Konińsko-Turecki Coal Basin area.
