Summary/Abstract: The article provides a general overview of the reception of Wisława Szymborska’s poetry in Italy, linking her success to the historical moment in which Western Europe found itself at the end of the last century. The analysis attempts to move beyond the external factors that contributed to Szymborska’s popularity on the Peninsula, such as high-quality translations or effective publishing strategies, and explores rather the internal conditions underlying this phenomenon. To this end, the study cites Italian-language sources discussing the state of Polish literature, which are then compared with texts by Italian critics, devoted to Szymborska’s work. This comparison reveals similarities between the interpretation of her poetry and the social climate prevailing after the “end of history”.
