Summary/Abstract: The mindless exploitation of nature by humans has led to an unprecedented loss of biodiversity and a worsening climate crisis. Environmental crime is a new and fast-growing form of organised transnational crime that adversely affects not only the environment, but societies as a whole. The damage caused to ecosystems and the environment poses a real risk of environmental catastrophes, irreversible climate change, contamination of the food chain, reduced life expectancy and the induction of disease. According to the United Nations Environment Organisation, three-quarters of all emerging infectious diseases are zoonotic in origin, and the pathway for microbial emissions, through damaged environments and wildlife crime, is becoming shorter and easier. Most countries have not yet fully considered other possible links between COVID-19 and environmental management and sustainability or other evolving criminal threats, including corruption. This article addresses the issue of environmental crime in Poland and Ukraine, taking into account Ukrainian legislation on corruption
