Summary/Abstract: In this study, the construction activities of the period of Süleyman Şah, one of the Germiyanoğulları lords within the Western Anatolian Principalities, are discussed in the context of patron and artist. The first construction activity of Süleyman Şah, who became the head of the principality in 1361, was to undertake the repair of the Denizli Ulu Mosque, and then he continued the construction or repair activities of structures such as mosques and masjids, most of which were within the religious architecture group, in the capital Kütahya, Afyonkarahisar and Sandıklı. Considering the existing structures today, construction activities continued until 1382, and after this date, he married his daughter Devlet Hatun to Yıldırım Bayezid of the Ottoman Empire and took a significant part of the lands of the principality such as Tavşanlı, Simav, Emet (Eğrigöz), including the capital Kütahya, as a dowry. He moved the center of the principality to Kula and lived here until his death. No information regarding construction activities was recorded during the five-year period from 1382 to 1387, the year of Suleyman Şah's death. When we look at the patrons of the buildings that were built or repaired in this period, we see that in addition to the buildings built by the hands of Suleiman Şah himself, people such as commanders, ahi and emirs, who continued as a tradition, also served as patrons. Thus, it is understood that not only the treasury but also personal budgets were used in the construction of newly conquered or already dominated cities. The construction artist of only one of the constructed structures is known. In the construction inscription of the Sandıklı Grand Mosque, the artist of the building, Abdullahoğlu Aydemir, is also the manager of the city with the expression "en-naib", which he uses to describe himself in the inscription, and he is also the construction artist of this building with the title of "mimarühu". In line with the information obtained from period sources, foundation records and inscriptions, the subject of the study focuses on the possibility that the construction activities carried out during the reign of Süleyman Şah took place within a building organization, unlike previous studies on this period. In addition, the identities of the patrons were determined and it was tried to reveal to what extent the people living in the settlements under the Germiyanoğulları rule or those dealing with the administrative and military affairs of the principality contributed to the development activities. The lack of a monographic study examining the construction activities of the Süleyman Şah period in the context of patrons and artists reveals the importance of the research. The buildings were examined on site, their plans and architectural features were evaluated within themselves, and the identities of their patrons and artists in the administrative and social life of the Germiyanoğulları were tried to be determined.
