Summary/Abstract: The article considers the possibility of drawing a map of the lands depicted in LeopoldBuczkowski’s novel Black Torrent. The analysis focuses on issues that make the taskcomplicated or difficult. While geographic details of local topography are very palpable inthe fictional narrative, their rendering remains very subjective and varied due to a numberof voices present in Black Torrent. The novel’s affective personalized narrative turns thelocal topography into a complex expressionistic structure in which real placenames areinterspersed with fictional ones, which are yet derived from real geographical names. The article offers a comprehensive list of names whose locality is rooted in existing maps.It argues that the novel explores the opposition between real and verifiable cartography, and internal spaces, which are the cornerstone of literary fiction.
