Summary/Abstract: The authors focus on a comprehensive diplomatic and content analysis of the unusual testament of the City of Brno townswoman Barbora Střelická from 1595, in the wider context of the early testamentary practice from the Middle Ages to the Early Modern Age. What is exceptional in local circumstances is that the testament was written in Czech and that the testator specifically identified his scribe. Moreover, the latter came from the rural town of Hustopeče, which of course has other peculiarities to which the authors point. Barbora herself deserves attention as a woman of essentially unknown origin (perhaps from Silesia), but clearly possessing a large property, as evidenced by her numerous and financially “interesting” legates. Some indications even suggest that certain financial benefits may have come from credit operations.
