Summary/Abstract: In recent years, modern innovative technologies have been integrated into Speech and Language Therapy, and their impact requires thorough evaluation and summarization. Virtual Reality (VR) is a promising technology for acquiring and intensively practicing listening, speech, language and communication skills. Therefore, a systematic review of the VR's interactive scenarios might be particularly useful for developing a comprehensive understanding how the emotional and social skills for children and adolescents with communication disorders can be enhanced by the deep immersion in VR environments. VR scenarios offer the children opportunities to engage intensively in the complete cycle of "perception- cognition-action-experience" allowing them to actively perceive and interpret information, take appropriate actions and gain valuable empirical knowledge. Consequently, the current review focuses exclusively on articles about the use of VR technologies in education and therapy for improving the emotional and social skills of children and adolescents with communication disorders by immersive simulation of interactions encountered in everyday life. The objectives of this review are threefold: To summarize the current state of research on the use of interactive VR scenarios for improving communication skills in children and adolescents; to categorize the virtual game scenarios described in the reviewed articles into a systematic table; and to answer eight key research questions in details.
