Summary/Abstract: The number of cyberthreats worldwide is rising steadily each year. Both the public and private sectors are vulnerable to cyberthreats, and especially state services in the public sector are impacted. This is particularly noticeable in educational institutions. Their computer systems are generally unsecured, and hackers view them as valuable sources of confidential information. Since not every computer user has the same level of information security knowledge, the purpose of this research is to examine students’ awareness of information security. The authors carried out a targeted investigation in which the knowledge of potential risks and security precautions of 111 undergraduate students of Information Sciences at the University of Mostar were assessed. A survey and the ensuing quantitative and qualitative analyses served as the foundation for this study. The findings shed light on the existing knowledge levels of undergraduate students and their information security awareness. This also highlights subjects that should be covered in lifelong learning exercises to improve comprehension of possible dangers and suitable protection methods.
