Summary/Abstract: The most frequently cited definition of the sustainable development is surely the one from the Brundtlanding report which defines sustainable development as 'development that enables satisfying of the needs of current generations, but without endangering the needs of future generations.' The understanding of traffic system requires integrative intermodal approach and knowledge of the basic postulates of sustainable development. The application of new intelligent transport technologies in all traffic branches will reduce costs, increase energy efficiency and improve protection and provide new services to citizens, such as the ability to manage traffic flows in real time and follow-up. When observing a transport company, digitization should contribute to the elimination of all the barriers to transport routes, reducing traffic accidents, and less attendance of driver activities in the traffic flow process. The ecological dimension of sustainable development referes to environmental issues. In Europe, in cities there is over 60% of population which generates 85% of gross National Product (GNP) of European Union. Logistics can be definied as managment of flow of goods and raw material, the processes of production the final products and associated information from source point to point of final use in accordance with customer needs. Logistics activities in the city, and primarily urban freight transport, are not sustainable. It is necessary to raise the awareness of all interested parties about the importance of research and the definition of different initiatives and concepts of city logistics that would enable the sustainable development of urban environments.
