Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the antecedents, the reasons, the process and the experiences of the deportation of a Hungarian immigrant couple from Canada (1929), based on the different perspectives of those involved – the couple, the Hungarian consul, and the Canadian immigration authorities. The paper not only describes the case, but provides insight into more general phenomena such as the immigrants’ coping strategies, the process of deportation, the Canadian immigration policy, or the the Hungarian consul’s behavior.
