The Theological and Spiritual Meanings of the Icon of the Annunciation

Summary/Abstract: The present study is divided into two distinct parts in terms of form, length and content. In the first part, I provide a brief historical overview of the icon, emphasizing the meaning of the prohibition of iconographic representation in the Old Testament and the basis for its representation in the New Testament. In the second part, I explore the theological and spiritual significances of the elements that constitute the Annunciation icon: the celestial vault, the ray, the Archangel Gabriel, the Mother of God and the Temple of Jerusalem.
