“In The Toy Corner”. On the conservation, exhibiting and scientific description of historical toys from the collection of the Museum in Gliwice

Summary/Abstract: The article is dedicated to the small collection of historical toys, owned by the Museum in Gliwice. The first part focuses on the description of the collection, outlining both the difficulties associated with the scientific study of the objects, as well as the issues of the exhibition „In the Toy Corner”, (available to visitors in Gliwice during 2022) that showed all of the gathered objects together for the first time. The second part discusses the issues revolving around restoration and conservation of the collection. It describes specific qualities of the objects, as well as the assumed goals and guidelines. Toys were analysed and divided into several groups based on the technique and technology of their production. For each group, the existing conservation issues were indicated along with a presentation of the methods and materials used. Finally, several of the most interesting restoration examples were described.
