Summary/Abstract: Drug problems and drug abuse are very pronounced in the whole world today, and there are different opinions of experts from the fields of law and medicine, but also from other scientific disciplines, who are trying to find a suitable prescription, a suitable strategy for reducing drug addiction and all its negative consequences. In accordance with the current situation on the world stage, numerous countries have legalized cannabis for medical purposes. At the same time, the trend of legalization of medical cannabis is accompanied by the trend of decriminalization, and slowly, examples of countries that have taken the next step and fully legalized cannabis for recreational purposes are emerging. On the other hand, the arguments against decriminalization and legalization are primarily medical, which concern the health of the individual, but also sociological, which are related to the cultural and customary norms of a certain society. In the paper, the authors analyze the issue of the legalization of soft drugs, not giving primacy to either the argument for or against legalization, considering that it is possible to support the position that banning something that has been illegal for a long time and has been in widespread use nevertheless entails a series of bad effects, which would be expected successfully prevented by controlled legalized use, i.e. consumption.
