A Bibliometric Analysis on Sustainable Tourism Economics

Summary/Abstract: There has been a steady increase in the research trend in the academic literature for sustainable tourism economics studies. As a result of the rapidly increasing masses of research, it has become necessary to make a holistic and up-to-date assessment of the field in order to gain insight into the field of sustainable tourism. In this regard, bibliographic data on sustainable tourism economics were obtained from the Web of Science (WoS) database. 693 publications between the years 2015-2023 were accessed. According to the findings obtained with the CiteSpace package program, keywords, citation explosion of keywords, countries with the most publications, timeline of keywords, interdisciplinary cooperation map, and journal citation analysis were examined. It was seen that the most cited words were “political economy,” “sustainable development,” “governance economy,” and it was observed that the publications gained momentum in 2021, and most articles were published in the social sciences citation index. The top two countries with the highest number of publications were the People's Republic of China and the United States of America, respectively.
