Summary/Abstract: The author of the article presents a short analysis of the role and tasks ofPolish police in a system of crisis management, pointing out its significantparticipation in taking actions aiming to ensure internal and external secu-rity of the state and its citizens. These considerations were made based onboth applicable law and the literature on the subject. The research prob-lem was presented in the form of the following question: what tasks wereassigned to the Police in the crisis management system in Poland? Thearticle describes selected crisis events in which the Police are obliged totake appropriate actions according to the applicable statutory provisions.A narrow catalogue of security threats as sources of crisis situations wasindicated. In addition, the applicable legal acts and scientific studies in thearea of the issue discussed were analysed and their synthesis was carriedout. It should be emphasized that in their daily service, police officers veryoften encounter sudden and unforeseen situations that have the hallmarksof a crisis. These events are caused by both natural forces and human activity,including disasters and technical failures. It should be noted that in theirdaily service, police officers very often encounter sudden emergencies. Nat-ural threats are the first to be identified with crisis situations, referring tocommonly known examples of natural disasters and unforeseen situationsthat bear the characteristics of crisis situations. Accordingto the Police’s interpretation, a crisis situation also includes disturbancesof public order and security resulting from protests, blocking facilitiesand border crossings, important communication routes and junctions, andterrorist attacks. In conclusion, the author highlighted the important roleof the Police in the crisis management system, and also stressed the needto constantly adapt the regulations governing the participation of this for-mation in combating crisis events. The author also pointed out the need todevelop inter-ministerial response procedures in such cases, and the need toprovide emergency groups with equipment adequate to respond effectivelyin the event of a threat.
